The Aga Khan featured prominently in the news over the weekend following the conclusion of what has been a 10 year legal battle to divorce his second wife, German Princess Gabriele zu Leiningen. The judgement was passed in private, with both sides saying publicly only that the divorce "ends by consent".

Many Christian leaders have also had marriages that failed. It is often hard for us to understand how figures that we look up to so much can have such difficulties in their personal lives. As Christians we find solace by focussing our attention on the only man ever to have lived and never sinned; on the one who by virtue of that was not bound by death but lives and rules in heaven today; on the image of God, the Light and Wisdom of God-incarnate, Jesus Christ. We pray that our Ismaili friends will find similar hope.
