News agencies are reporting almost 300 dead in northern Afghanistan and Pakistan, with tremors felt in Tajikistan and India.
All of us at Ismaili Friends send our deepest condolences to the friends, families and communities who have lost those closest to them.
This quake has struck at the heart of an historic Ismaili community and follows fatal flooding earlier this year and a terrible landslide last year that claimed more than 2500 lives.
As Christians we want to stand with our Ismaili friends in prayer in the midst of this suffering, asking the Lord God to send His Holy Spirit, the Comforter (John 14:26), to comfort those who are mourning, and pleading with Him to speed the relief efforts and prevent any further tragedy from future aftershocks.
